I received my “Like new certified replacement” motorola droid from Verizon Wireless, needless to say the screen goes black on phone calls, and doesn’t come back. After searching I found out that this is a VERY COMMON issue, and most things I find says there factory replacement does the same exact thing. I have factory reset the phone and called support. Now I’m getting another

like new certified replacement. Nothing like a 48 hour wait for the first replacement. The original droid I had died and never turned back on, so no phone during that time. Right now being Friday night, the new phone isnt batched out until Monday, and probably wont see it until Tuesday or Wednesday. Until then its make phone calls, open the slider to press buttons or hang up. Whenever I’m prompted for voicemail password, slide the keyboard open and touch the screen, then close the screen.

heres a link to the blackscreen when phone calls being made, if you experience the same thing, have them replace it. I used this phone since day 1. My original Droid that I sold, “bad economy” was perfect. It was sold a few days before the 2.1 OTA upgrade came out.

  • So my wife’s Motorola Droid got the OTA 2.1 OS upgrade (over the air upgrade, and within 24 hours died). I don’t know if these things are related, but she was treated horrible at the Verizon store. Sorry Verizon in Bangor ME, were not stupid, I know your manager is cheap and didn’t want to deal with replacing a droid. I was so mad I almost canceled her phone. They tried to tell her that light scratches around the screen were abuse or neglect. The water indicator was not red, so it was never wet, and the screen has no scratches because it had a screen protector. Its called wear and tear, the screen moves back and forth, its going to get light scratches, especially with keys and change in pockets.

Some of the cool features that were added were.

Motorola Droid users will get multitouch pinch-to-zoom capabilities (using the built-in browser), the Gallery feature (for viewing images), and a Google Maps app. The Gallery app also brings the 3D layout found on the Nexus one, live wallpapers.

Also on the Android 2.1 feature list for the Droid are new Weather and News applications and widgets, and support for voice-to-text entry from within the virtual keyboard (by tapping the microphone icon).

Android 2.1 on the Motorola Droid you will also bring better handset audio when disconnecting a wired headset, an “improved” pattern-lock functionality and automatic night-mode switch in Google Maps.

One thing that the Motorola Droid won’t get in the Android 2.1 software update is the new 3D application launcher found on the Nexus One, though despite this, most of the new features have made their way to the Droid.

So if you are like me, and you ever reset your Motorola Droid, and don’t want to activate it, because you are selling it. This info should help you out.

    Droid Bypass Activation:

You can bypass the Motorola Droid Activation by tapping on the 4 corners of the screen in clockwise order starting with the upper-left corner. This will drop you back to your home screen. The first time you boot your phone afterwards you will be asked to activate and you can then just hit the back key and it will drop you to the home screen again.

Dont forget to also, delete your sd card memory after you do this, or your pictures might still be on it.

Hope this information is as useful to you as it was for me.
