The cellphone I currently use is the new HTC Incredible. This cellphone has been the best I have used in my lifetime. 6 Months ago I started with a Motorola Droid, and was using it until receiving this phone. There are a few differences between the Motorola and the HTC, which make it a better choice of a phone. Just recently the 2.1 update to the Android OS was released. The 2.1 update added amazing features like multi-touch, and speech to text. One great feature in the HTC model is the built in radio tuner. You must use a pair or headphones as a antenna for the radio feature but you need them to listen to the radio anyway.

Sound quality is far superior to my Motorola droid. The weight of this handset is lower then the weight of the Motorola also. If you want a sleek simpler to use phone I would recommend the HTC, but if a slide out keyboard is needed buy the original Motorola Droid. The Motorola has a slide out keyboard, which is a 1UP to this model, but extended features far outweigh the missing features. Some have said that the phone has a cheap feeling, yes it has a slight plastic feeling, but the material used is different then any cellphone I have owned.

A few bad points: The HTC incredible battery is lower rated then the Motorola, and thinner. I could get a day or more with the battery in the original droid, but after trying the incredible, and running multiple simultaneous apps I can say that the battery sucks. I on an average charge my phone mid-day so it doesn’t run out by the time I get home from work at night. Some applications in the Android marketplace do not work correctly for the HTC incredible. With a smaller built in memory 8GB this is half the standard droid’s 16GB card. The good point of this is the SD slot will take additional memory, but you will need to purchase another card for it. I myself use a memory card reader and adapter that came with my Micro SD card to transfer files between my phone and computer.

The good: The amazing OLED screen makes this phone shine. No really, it practically lights my way through my house on the home screen, because of the brightness of this upgraded screen. Also, the new applications that are specific to certain droid phones really shine on the HTC model. The built in media player is light years ahead of the standard Motorola one, and the photo album is faster and very easy to navigate. The 8MP camera is insanely clear and bright; the dual LED flash will light up any place to take a great picture. In my testing pictures from lower light areas produce lower quality pictures.

Overall in conclusion, the HTC Droid Incredible is a amazing piece of technology. For the average price of $99-$200 dollars this phone is worth every penny. Verizon has the largest network available through the country, with 3G available for most of it. Don’t fall for the iPhone AT&T trap with spotty, unreliable 3G coverage. You can find a unique Android based phone to match your everyday needs. A high point to owning an android phone is the way Google Apps are highly integrated. In a matter of seconds you can get yourself signed into Gmail, and sync your facebook contacts into your phone, instantly having most your friends, family, and acquaintances at the touch of your fingers. For more information see our forum for Android SDK development

I’m starting to look into building android applications. My main reason, is I would like a LED flashlight, for the HTC Droid Incredible. I would also like to build a few money managing apps, or website tool apps. If anyone wants to be part of the project I will reopen a section on the main site techtutorial.com for developing android applications Please leave any comments and I will moderate them, about any questions about getting started developing android applications. I will put the responses or replies within the post or on the forum as they come in. I will post any updates on programming a htc incredible led flashlight here and on my forum

thanks for reading.

I received my “Like new certified replacement” motorola droid from Verizon Wireless, needless to say the screen goes black on phone calls, and doesn’t come back. After searching I found out that this is a VERY COMMON issue, and most things I find says there factory replacement does the same exact thing. I have factory reset the phone and called support. Now I’m getting another like new certified replacement. Nothing like a 48 hour wait for the first replacement. The original droid I had died and never turned back on, so no phone during that time. Right now being Friday night, the new phone isnt batched out until Monday, and probably wont see it until Tuesday or Wednesday. Until then its make phone calls, open the slider to press buttons or hang up. Whenever I’m prompted for voicemail password, slide the keyboard open and touch the screen, then close the screen.

heres a link to the blackscreen when phone calls being made, if you experience the same thing, have them replace it. I used this phone since day 1. My original Droid that I sold, “bad economy” was perfect. It was sold a few days before the 2.1 OTA upgrade came out.

So my wife’s Motorola Droid got the OTA 2.1 OS upgrade (over the air upgrade, and within 24 hours died). I don’t know if these things are related, but she was treated horrible at the Verizon store. Sorry Verizon in Bangor ME, were not stupid, I know your manager is cheap and didn’t want to deal with replacing a droid. I was so mad I almost canceled her phone. They tried to tell her that light scratches around the screen were abuse or neglect. The water indicator was not red, so it was never wet, and the screen has no scratches because it had a screen protector. Its called wear and tear, the screen moves back and forth, its going to get light scratches, especially with keys and change in pockets.

Some of the cool features that were added were.

Motorola Droid users will get multitouch pinch-to-zoom capabilities (using the built-in browser), the Gallery feature (for viewing images), and a Google Maps app. The Gallery app also brings the 3D layout found on the Nexus one, live wallpapers.

Also on the Android 2.1 feature list for the Droid are new Weather and News applications and widgets, and support for voice-to-text entry from within the virtual keyboard (by tapping the microphone icon).

Android 2.1 on the Motorola Droid you will also bring better handset audio when disconnecting a wired headset, an “improved” pattern-lock functionality and automatic night-mode switch in Google Maps.

One thing that the Motorola Droid won’t get in the Android 2.1 software update is the new 3D application launcher found on the Nexus One, though despite this, most of the new features have made their way to the Droid.

So if you are like me, and you ever reset your Motorola Droid, and don’t want to activate it, because you are selling it. This info should help you out.

Droid Bypass Activation:

You can bypass the Motorola Droid Activation by tapping on the 4 corners of the screen in clockwise order starting with the upper-left corner. This will drop you back to your home screen. The first time you boot your phone afterwards you will be asked to activate and you can then just hit the back key and it will drop you to the home screen again. Dont forget to also, delete your sd card memory after you do this, or your pictures might still be on it.

Hope this information is as useful to you as it was for me.
